Fun Day 20th June 2010

Fun Day
20th June 2010

After months of hard work arranging the fun day, the event was finally here. Members arrived at 9.30am to set up the stalls. Bringing boxes of goodies to transform the hall to make this day a success. There were plenty of plants and even strawberry plants with ready to eat strawberries on.
plants
jams An array of jams and chutneys such as Rose Petal jelly, Peach with Amaretto and Caramelised Red Onion and Ginger Relish, and a selection of homemade cakes.
There was also hand made cards, books and bric a brac.
tombola 11 o’clock, doors opened, will anyone come? A gentle stream of people soon arrived looking for all the bargains. Refreshments were on offer and at lunchtime it was very busy. There was a good trade of freshly made sandwiches and salad, which were delicious. Cream Teas were on the menu for later in the afternoon, these were also superb.
face paints With stalls such as name the dog, guess the number of sweets in a jar and the tombola, there was something for everyone. The tombola was very busy with one gentleman who kept coming back again and again but he went home with bags of prizes.
face paint There was face painting by Tracy from Glitterartzi. She did some beautiful designs of flowers and butterflies for the girls and Vampires, Tigers and Spiderman for the boys. This was not just for the kids as club members had their faces painted as well.

stocks

Stan volunteered to sit in the stocks so that people could throw wet sponges at him. What a brave chap. With a sign saying “ Have a go and hit the man he won’t mind he’s our Stan” That was what everyone did, and soaked Stan.

police The community police came with leaflets on crime prevention.
fire engine Also the Kent fire service was in attendance with their fire engine. They let us up in the fire engine and answered questions.
raffle After selling raffle tickets all day ‘Ronnie Hooper’ and ‘Holly Barton’ announced that the raffle was to be drawn at 2.30pm. After a mad rush to buy the last raffle tickets, the draw began with over 15 prizes on offer. These included shopping vouchers, bottles of drink, a toaster, meal voucher and not forgetting the cuddly toy. They soon gave away the prizes to the winning ticket holders.

Step Up for Stroke 2010

13th May 2010
During the morning Denise Painter and members of the SCART team checked blood pressure and gave advice to all enquiries
Leaflets and literature promoting stroke awareness were available and more t shirts, hats and goodies were sold.
Doreen and Karen sold homemade cards some of these had been donated by Pauline Caselton the others were made by ‘the girls’
Club members arrived throughout the morning in preparation for the walk at 1pm. Refreshments were available and the weather perfect for sitting outside and admiring the scenery, between having blood pressures checked, buying goodies and catching up on the latest available stroke information.
group The walk was a great success, all members stepping up for stroke and walking more than they usually do. It was once round the pond for some, while others went to the furthest point of Horrid Hill. It was then back to the cafe and more well earned refreshments
Other members of the stroke club did their own walks in various parts of the country, Annie Stark in Scotland, a group of adventurous members on holiday together in Jersey, and Mick and Lin in Bridlington.
The next part of our STEP UP FOR STROKE is our fun day on Sunday June 20th at The Masonic Hall, Franklin Road, Gillingham, from 11am to 4pm, everyone is most welcome.
