A Special Event at Rochester Airport

16th October 2008

Members of Medway’s Young Stroke Club and the Thursday Stroke Club met up at Rochester Airport for an extremely tasty buffet lunch.

Once lunch was over, there was a big surprise in store for their two Stroke Co-ordinators, Annie and Denise. The members had arranged for their two ‘ladies’ to take a flight from the airport, as a ‘thank you’ for all their hard work.

waiting for a plane Annie and Denise are not usually lost for words but, on this occasion, they were! Their faces were a picture, particularly when they were presented with personalised baseball caps for the flight, kindly donated by Millen Aviation Services.

Luckily the weather was kind on the day, with lots of blue sky and fluffy white clouds. Members made their way out to the airfield to watch the take-off.

At the Plane The local press were there to take photographs and everyone watched Annie and Denise climb into the aeroplane and take off, up and away. There was lots of waving from the aeroplane and from the ground.

Taxing

At some point, Denise took the controls, whilst Annie went ’photo mad’.
Landing It was quite a breezy day, so the landing back at Rochester Airport was, apparently, ‘interesting’. Members were there to welcome them back, with lots of cheers and more photographs.
As well as lots of photographs, a video was taken for posterity.

Both Annie and Denise were presented with certificates for their flight and then everyone made their way back to the café for a welcome cup of tea.

Annie and Denise were delighted with their ‘present’ and thanked all members for such a great surprise.
